HISTORY OF CLIMBING
Officially launched in 1998 by the Singapore Mountaineering Federation, the Singapore National Climbing Standards (SNCS) was first introduced as the fundamental guidelines of safety and performance for all sport climbing.
With the sport rapidly growing in Singapore today, it is essential that each and every climber, is to learn and practice the basics of climbing and belaying, using the right techniques, in a safe and proper manner. Thus the Sport Climbing Levels 1, 2, and 3 were launched and recognised in all Singapore climbing gyms and around South East Asia.
Climbers are required to attain a minimum of Sport Climbing Level 1 in order to practice belaying techniques on another climber. Levels 2 and 3 are further advancements into the climbing experience as Lead Climbing and Multi-Pitch Climbing respectively.
Sport Climbing Level 1 (Top Rope Belaying) and Sport Climbing Level 2 (Lead Climbing) are being offered for all interested climbers. Both courses are conducted according to the guidelines under the Singapore National Climbing Standards set by the Singapore Mountaineering Federation.
All participants will undergo a practical assessment at the end of the course before being certified climbers.
Upon completion of the course, certified climbers are welcome to join in the fun of experiencing natural rock climbing in our neighboring countries. Do check out our Climbing Logs for snippets of our adventures.
